Former army reservists from several towns of the Toplica region in the south held a meeting in Prokuplje on Friday. Gathered ex-servicemen said they would set up road blocks in the region since the problem of unpaid wages for their service in the 1999 Kosovo war had not yet been solved. Veterans announce road blocks Around three thousand veterans filed lawsuits in order to collect their payments, but all court proceedings concerning their cases were stopped in Prokuplje and Kursumlija, which prompted the veterans to protest. “I believe justice is on our side. We are not second rate citizens and they cannot treat us as such,” one of the protesters told B92. A central strikers’ board for the Toplica region was established in Prokuplje yesterday. Meanwhile, those gathered in Kursumlija’s town hall decided yesterday to call off a two-week hunger strike owing to the poor health of some protesters. Nonetheless, the veterans there said they would remain barricaded in the hall and continue with their protest.
