BELGRADE SPS leader and Prime Minister Ivica Dacic stated on Sunday that the government will file a proposition to dissolve parliament to President Tomislav Nikolic. He could then call early parliamentary elections, which are due to be held on March 16, Dacic explained. PM: SNS will explain proposal to dissolve parliament He said that he expects the Serb Progressive Party (SNS), as the central party in the government coalition, to present an explanation of the proposal which would be discussed at the next government session. “Elections are at this point the best possible way to get fresh political legitimacy which will reduce the existing tensions in the society,” Dacic said at the news conference after the session of the SPS Presidency. He explained that he did not consider the elections necessary, "not because SPS fears their outcome but because he was sure that there are much more important tasks to be tackled in the country." Dacic said that he has come to respects the SNS decision that early parliamentary elections should be called at this moment, adding that he did not even think of obstructing them because Serbia's interests are most important. He stated that the cooperation between coalition partners in the government in the past 1.5 years was positive and that not a single decision was adopted by outvoting, adding that he is proud of the results the government achieved. The prime minister said that the talks on Serbia's EU accession began during the mandate of the incumbent government, as well as the dialogue on the normalization of relations with Pristina at the moment when the province was sliding toward independence at an accelerated pace. Thanks to the agreement with Pristina reached in Brussels in April 2013, Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija got a legitimate government recognised by both Pristina and the international community, Dacic said. Prior to this, comprehensive reforms in the country were launched and major foreign projects were initiated, such as the South Stream pipeline with Russia and several projects with China, Dacic recalled and said that the decision to call early parliamentary elections should not cast a shade on the results the government achieved. He also warned that the early elections must not interrupt reforms, EU accession talks or the dialogue with Pristina on the problems in Kosovo. After the parliament is dissolved, the government will work in a technical mandate, Dacic said. Addressing citizens and partners abroad, he noted that this matter will not affect the political and economic stability of the country. He noted that this was "a good moment for SPS to go to elections," adding that the party will join the electoral race with the same coalition partners as in the previous polls, that is with the United Serbia and the Party of United Pensioners of Serbia, with which it maintained good cooperation until now.
