However, that is not the sole reason for negotiating the distribution of the seats.

“Managing boards carry more clout than politics. It is one of the most prominent methods of sharing financial and commercial power among political parties”, says Nemanja Nenadić from Transparency Serbia.

Managing board members also receive large sums. Although they are legally obliged to reveal their income to the public, most public companies refuse to do so, treating it as confidential information.

It rumoured that the president of JAT Airways managing board receives 57000 dinars, the MB Nikola Tesla Airport president receives 125,000 dinars, and MB Telekom president 153,000 dinars. Public companies usually disclose the sums after the Trustee for information of public relevance files an official request. Public companies often refuse to give away such information to citizens and journalists.

“I firmly believe that such information should in any case be made public”, says the information of public relevance Trustee Rodoljub Šabić.

The competence of the persons to assume managing board positions should be taken into account, say the experts. “We should receive criteria and explanations for each person appointed to a Managing Board and whether he or she meets the criteria”, holds Nenadić.

The final deal on the MB seats distribution should come after the government is formed.
