BELGRADE National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Governor Dejan Soskic has said the public debt reached 54.7 percent of GDP at the end of June. The growth of the debt was one of the things to cause nervousness on the foreign exchange market, he stressed, adding that "then came the vague and concerning statements by some politicians regarding the new government's opinion on how to organize public finances and its attitude towards financial institutions." Public debt at 54.7% of GDP at end of June In the last three months alone, the potential price of financing the country's public debt rose by around 2 percent, he told the NIN weekly. "If that raises the interest rate on the new issue of Serbia's ten-year eurobonds on the international market, the damage of our irresponsible behavior and statements could reach tens and even hundreds of millions of dollars and euros," he pointed out. Serbia's debt at the end of June was at around EUR 15.29 billion, meaning that it went up by about EUR 825 million since the start of the year, the Ministry of Finance released earlier. The budget system law limits Serbia's debt to 45 percent of GDP. The debt at the and of 2011 was EUR 14.47 billion, which was 45.1 percent of GDP. Tanjug
