At least 84 people have been killed and more than a hundred injured in the French town of Nice by an unidentified attacker.

He was stopped when the police shot him through the windshield.

Explosives and automatic weapons have been found in the truck.

French President Francois Hollande has called the massacre a terrorist attack. Later on Friday, he said that 50 of those injured on Thursday evening were in a life-threatening condition.

Although Islamic State has been celebrating the outcome of the attack on social networks, no group has yet claimed responsibility.

Meanwhile, according to media reports, the attacker was a 31-year-old French citizen of Tunisian extraction, with a previous criminal record. He was named later in the day as Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel.

The Serbian embassy in France said on Friday morning they had no reports of any Serbian citizens being among the victims.
