A man held by Norwegian police since Friday has confessed to both attacks that took place in that country, claiming the lives of at least 92 people. The 32-year-old Norwegian, identified by the media as Anders Behring Breivik, said he acted alone when he exploded a bomb near the government headquarters in Oslo, and then went on a shooting spree several hours later, killing people gathered for the country's Labor Party Youth summer camp. Man claims he carried out Norway attacks alone Norway's Police Commissioner Sveinung Sponheim said that during the questioning, the suspect said he acted alone but that the police will try to verify this through their inquiry. Sponheim noted that some of the survivors of the island shooting made statements that suggested they may have been more than one attacker. However, there were no other suspects in the case, described as the worst violence in the Scandinavian country since the end of the Second World War. Breivik's lawyer Geir Lippestad told Norwegian media that his client "admitted responsibility, and that he "feels that it was cruel to have to carry out these acts but that, in his head, it was necessary." Meantime, a 1,500-page electronic document surfaced on the internet, believed to have been written by Breivik, which suggests that the twin attacks that took place on Friday were planned for the past two years. The document explains that its author took to farming in 2009 in order to have access to artificial fertilizers, which were used to manufacture the bomb. The document attributed to the suspect also expresses dissatisfaction over NATO's attacks on Serbia in 1999 - which he believes were instigated by American and European Marxists and multi-culturalists in order to declare war on Christian Serbs and prevent them from stopping Islam in their land - and names the Pope and Vladimir Putin as persons he holds in regard. Norwegian police described the man in their custody a "Christian fundamentalist whose political opinions leaned to the right", while the media also describe him as an "Islamophobe". His choice of targets and the motives behind the massacre remain unclear, however. (Beta/AP)
