Saša Mirković says a total of 79 state owned media firms will be privatized and relevant media legislation should be adopted in the second half of the year.

"79 media houses to be privatized"

The bills on public information and media and on electronic media are in the final stage of drafting and the process is being done in communication with the European Commission, which is aimed at making the text of these documents as good as possible, Mirković said in an interview published in Monday’s edition of Belgrade-based daily Danas.

“The bill on public service media should be forwarded to Brussels for analysis soon. I think it is realistic to expect the media laws to be adopted in the second half of this year,” he said.

Asked if an earlier decision to have the public service media financed in greater part from the state budget for two more years will be changed, Mirković said that he cannot speak about a final solution at the moment, as we are now in the middle of a government debate on the future model for their financing.
