OSCE calls for inclusion of Roma population “This day offers an opportunity to reflect on numerous contributions that the Roma community made in Serbia, and talk about the ways to secure active participation of the Roma community in all aspects of the public life,” Kypreos said. He commended the efforts of the state bodies to adopt an action plan for the implementation of the Strategy for Improvement of the Status of Roma 2012- 2014 and voiced hope this would be completed soon. “The OSCE Mission will continue to back the efforts of the Serbian institutions and Roma organizations with the aim of fully integrating the Roma into the Serbian society, Kypreos said. Vojvodina Executive Council Chairman Bojan Pajtic has said that it is important for the Roma to have their representatives in the provincial and republic parliament and in local town assemblies so their inclusion would be more successful. Pajtic said that Vojvodina’s model of the Roma social inclusion was recognized and praised as one of the most successful, not only in the region but in the entire Europe. “We can proudly say that at the moment we have about 300 students at the Novi Sad University. We help more than 400 high school students because we want to enable forming of the Roma elite, so the Roma would get out of the vicious cycle of poverty,” he stressed. He also added that 50 companies in which Roma worked or were owned by them had been opened with the help of the Vojvodina Executive Councul and announced that a new competition would be opened in ten days. Employees of the shelter for children who live and work on the street and Novi Sad Assembly Speaker Aleksandar Jovanovic have painted over hate graffiti that were recently written on the building. The vandals wrote racist messages and painted swastikas on the facade. Jovanovic strongly condemned the aggressive act against the children who come to the shelter. The shelter was opened in 2010 and has so far helped more than 390 children who live in poor conditions. (Tanjug, file) Beta Tanjug
