The Islamic Community in Serbia led by Muamer Zukorlic has dismissed the Religion Ministry’s accusations. According to the Community’s public relations department, the view that they were breaching Muslims’ religious rights was “overly cynical at a time when Milosevic was protecting Albanians from the Albanians, Hungarians from the Hungarians, Bosniaks from the Bosniaks, considering himself to be a greater friend to them than their own people.” Islamic Community dismisses Religion Ministry claims Yesterday, the Religion Ministry accused the Islamic Community led by Zukorlic of, among other things, “restricting and wantonly abusing the religious rights of all Moslems”. In response to claims that the Community had unlawfully expelled certain pupils from madrasses, they said that such a view on the part of the ministry confirmed their own views that the Religion Ministry was working against the Islamic Community in Serbia. “The height of this paradox in terms of the ministry’s conduct lies in the position that the ministry nonetheless supports a single Islamic community, forgetting that recently they announced that they supported two, while moreover, stressing that they recognize three Islamic community constitutions,” stated the Islamic Community.
