Ministry of Defense representatives are to meet today with ex-reservists in order to resolve the matter of unpaid wages. Agreement to hold today’s talks with former servicemen from Kursumlija, who have been on hunger strike now for a fortnight, followed a meeting between the men and Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac in Belgrade. MoD to meet veterans on hunger strike The strikers want their wages to be reimbursed, dating back to when they served in a reserve unit during the war in Kosovo in 1999. "We have proof that many of our comrades didn’t even receive a penny. We’re prepared to accept an out-of-court settlement as we don’t wish to jeopardize the military budget, but we do want to be paid what we’re owed," said strikers’ president, Dejan Milosevic. The Kursumlija veterans’ hunger strike has entered day 16. Since Sunday evening, they have been barricaded inside the municipality hall and have been refusing medical assistance. Several strikers have fallen ill as a result of exhaustion and deteriorating health, and they have been sent home for treatment. The strikers have been joined by a further ten former reservists today.
