Another river disaster: 10 tons of fish die

Besides the local police, the river was visited by Environmental Inspector Dragoslav Đorđević.

“Samples have been taken of the dead fish and the water from the river, and the results will be back in several days,” Đorđević said.

Municipal Inspector for Environmental Protection, Ruža Spalović, said that the two factories located in the community are suspected of polluting the river.

Kuršumlija Association of Sport Fishing official Dragan Mijajlović told B92 that this situation was similar to the environmental catastrophe recently seen in the Timok River.

He said that the two suspected polluters, a cold storage plant and a woodworking factory, have been informed of the possible consequences of contaminating the water.

“We were afraid this would happen because of the low water level and high temperatures. You are witnesses to a disaster which began yesterday evening. All the necessary authorities have been notified,” Mijajlović said.

Communal services are still working on cleaning the fish out of the river. Thus far, the Kopaonik factory has negated using any toxic materials and polluting the water.
