Three indictments against former Yugoslav defense chief
The Croatian MUP, however, could not confirm whether the international warrant for Kadijević’s arrest has been issued.Croatia’s State Prosecutor’s Office rebuffed claims that former Yugoslav Army (JNA) chiefs, including Kadijević, Blagoje Adžić and Ratko Mladić were never legally prosecuted in Croatia.
The indictment against Veljko Kadijević, former State Defense Secretary in 1991, was issued in 1992 by the Bjelovar District Court. Ten years later, Vukovar’s Municipal Court charged him with crimes committed in Vukovar.
The most recent indictment against Kadijević dates from 2005, accusing him of crimes committed in Osijek.
The Bjelovar indictment charges Kadijević with bombardment of civilian facilities in the area of Pakrac, Daruvar, Garešnica, Grubišino Polje, Virovitica, Križevac and Bjelovar.
Vukovar indictment accuses Kdijević, along with Adžić, Života Panić, Goran Hadžić and Vojislav Šešelj with the siege and destruction of Vukovar and the murder of Croatian war prisoners in Ovčara.
The last indictment refers to Kadijević’s role in the JNA air force strikes on Slavonia in 1991.
