PODGORICA The Montenegrin police, with Interpol mediation, has been "intensively checking" Russian nationals suspected of investing dirty money in that country. Montenegrin Interpol Office chief Dragan Djurovic has stated that the checks are being carried out at the request of the Russian police, and that 22 such requests arrived in the past 15 months. Djurovic explained that several Russian citizens were subject of the checks, whom the Russian police suspects have committed various crimes to gain the money and then invest it in European countries - "by which they committed the crime of money laundering." Đurović explained that several Russian citizens were subject of the checks, whom the Russian police suspects have committed various crimes to gain the money and then invest it in European countries - "by which they committed the crime of money laundering."

The investigation is meant to reveal whether some of that money was invested in Montenegro.
