BURGAS The number of victims who were killed in an attack on a bus carrying Israeli tourists in Bulgaria has risen to eight. Bulgarian Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov has stated that a suicide bomber was responsible for the terrorist attack. Suicide bomber responsible for Bulgaria attack The tourists had arrived in Bulgaria on a charter flight from Israel and were on the bus in the airport car park when the blast tore through the double-decker, Reuters has reported. One of 32 injured people succumbed to his injuries, increasing the death toll to eight – six Israelis, a Bulgarian and the suicide bomber. “We have established there was a person who was a suicide bomber in this attack (on Wednesday). This person had a fake driving license from the U.S., from the state of Michigan," Tsvetanov told reporters. Israeli officials warned earlier that Bulgaria, as a popular holiday destination among Israeli tourists, was a potential target of Islamist extremists. After the attack, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said that Tehran was behind the attack and warned that “Israel will react powerfully against Iranian terror”. The blast occurred on the 18th anniversary of a bomb attack at the headquarters of Argentina's main Jewish organization that killed 85 people and the Argentine government blamed on Iran, which denied responsibility. Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said the Tehran-backed Lebanese Shiite Muslim group Hezbollah carried out the bombing. "The immediate executors are Hezbollah people, who of course have constant Iranian sponsorship," Barak told Israel Radio. Hezbollah has denied the accusations, pointing out that they are “ridiculous” and that the group “is not waging a war against tourists”, Bulgarian media have reported. (Beta) Tanjug
