Early parliamentary elections are underway in Macedonia. Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski’s VMRO-DPMNE and former President Branko Crvenkovski’s Social Democratic Union are most likely to win the elections. According to polls, the ruling VMRO-DPMNE and opposition Social Democratic Union are likely to win the majority of votes. As far as ethnic Albanian parties are concerned, the Democratic Union for Integration and Democratic Party of Albanians should get the largest number of votes in the elections. 1,821,122 citizens are eligible to vote. The new Macedonian parliament will have 123 MPs, which is three more than before since the Diaspora also has the right to vote. About 4,000 observers will monitor the elections.
