Croatian President Ivo Josipovic and Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor have met after a period of high tension in the past several days. The government’s brief announcement issued in Zagreb stated only that Kosor and Josipovic had met and talked about “current topics in the country and agreed on further cooperation”. Croatian PM, president meet According to unofficial information reported by the media, the president and PM met at a secret location and talked for about an hour and a half. Prior to that Kosor also had a meeting with former President Stjepan Mesic, and media have been speculating that Mesic was mediating between her and the president. Both have in the meantime denied this, stating in separate annoucements that they were talking about the opening of the Croatian market toward Libya, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and other Asian countries. According to Kosor they also spoke about the position of Croats in Bosnia-Herzegovina. The public heated exchanges between the president and the PM culminated last weekend after Josipovic’s speech at Bosnia-Herzegovina’s parliament, in which he expressed regret over the Croatian policy of the 1990s, and Zagreb's role in the attempts to partition that country. The ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), led by Kosor, sharply criticized the president’s statements and some of the party officials claimed that his actions had violated the Constitution. In the wake of these accusations, Josipovic invited the PM to launch impeachment procedures against him - provided that she resigned if the moved proved to be unsuccessful.
