Bosnia-Herzegovina is the most corrupt country in the region, according to the results of a study performed over the last two months. The Friedrich-Ebert Foundation carried out the “Corruption in Bosnia-Herzegovina” survey along with Transparency International. Study shows Bosnia as “most corrupt country in region” The high level of corruption is seen both in the Republic of Srpska and the Federation. Srdjan Blagovcanin, the author of the study, said that Bosnia was, according to most studies, viewed as the most corrupt country in South-East Europe and one of the most corrupt countries in all of Europe. “One TI survey ranked Bosnia between 92nd and 95th place on a corruption list covering 180 countries,” he told a press conference in Banja Luka. Blagovcanin said that in a study conducted by the World Bank two years ago on the topic of “Anti-Corruption in Transition”, Bosnia-Herzegovina was identified as the most “trapped” country of all of the countries in transition. He said that the presence of political corruption and the effect of a trapped state were particularly palpable in Bosnia-Herzegovina. “This placed Bosnia-Herzegovina in the position of a country with the most pronounced effects of a trapped state, where all resources are subject to the interests of a small circle of people, who are in power or close to them,” Blagovcanin said. He said that corruption was most noticeable at local government level, in municipal administrations, the legal sector, health and education.
