A Slovenian sailor missed the ill-fated Air France Flight AF 447 because he could not get a seat with extra space to accommodate his injured knee. Andrej Alpinc of Radlje, Slovenia, changed tickets and got a seat on another plane, that departed before the one which went missing in the night between Sunday and Monday somewhere above the Atlantic Ocean. Injured leg saves Slovenian from boarding doomed plane All crew and passengers on the Rio de Janeiro-Paris flight, 228 of them, are believed to have died. "I wish I could celebrate, but I feel bad for my friends, who took the plane that ended up in the Atlantic waters," Alpinc told reporters in Ljubljana. Alpinc arrived at the airport early, and was told that his seat with extra space was no longer available, but was offered one on an earlier flight. His fellow sailors who worked on an Italian ship – a Croat and a Filipino – waited for the later flight – the AF 447. "I don't know what to thank for changing flights… the driver of the shipping company, who was in a hurry to get to a football game and drove us to Rio much earlier, my injured leg, or the fact that a day before the trip I had an Indian 'dream guardian' tattooed, the one that chases away evil spirits," Alpinc told reporters. Now he faces what he described as a difficult encounter with his Croatian friend's wife. Alpince remembers his colleague as "constantly talking about his family" while they worked together on their ship.
