Czech PM Mirek Topolanek said that the acceptance of Montenegro’s candidate status application does not mean that association talks will begin with the EU. “The acceptance of Montenegro’s application for candidate status for EU membership can not been seen as being synonymous with beginning association talks. It only means that the EU has seriously considered the application and that it will evaluate it in the standard way,” Topolanek said. The Czech PM, whose country is presiding over the EU currently, "believes that Montenegro, as well as other countries, must see interest from the EU". The committee of permanent representatives of the EU 27 EU, which is made of ambassadors from the member-states, confirmed on April 3, the demand submitted by Montenegro to become a candidate for EU membership. This is seen as an introduction to the April 23 meeting of the EU Council of Ministers, which should give the Montenegrin application the green light to continue with the association procedure.
