After the postponement of yesterday’s meeting of Slovenian and Croatian delegations in Brussels, the EU has called on the 2 countries to work constructively. The meeting between EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn with the two countries’ foreign ministers, which had been scheduled for yesterday, was canceled after Zagreb failed to respond to Rehn’s latest proposal to resolve the ongoing border dispute. Rehn added that he was still waiting for Croatia’s reply. EU in appeal to Slovenia, Croatia The substance of the proposal remains unknown, but Slovenia is understood to have sent its response on Monday evening. Instead of the planned meeting that was postponed indefinitely, the commissioner met with members of the presiding EU Troika—France, the Czech Republic and Sweden—to get them involved in resolving the dispute. Rehn voiced his satisfaction with that meeting afterwards, stating that the Troika had supported the European Commission’s initiative and called on Slovenia and Croatia to work constructively, in order to help achieve results ahead of the negotiating conference on Croatia’s EU accession, which has been put back until the end of April.
