Suspect in Macedonian policeman murder

The Macedonian police yesterday arrested a suspect linked to Thursday’s armed attack. In the attack near Skopje, one policeman was killed and two wounded. Suspect in Macedonian policeman murder The Interior Ministry said that the suspect, A.S. (36) from Tetovo, had been remanded in custody for 48 hours by the courts. The police officers had been in a jeep used by special police units, when they were opened fire on as they were exiting Skopje, on the road to Veles. The assailants were driving an unmarked Opel. Special police member Zoran Markovski (40) died on the way to hospital, while his two colleagues were kept at the Skopje Clinical Center with minor wounds. The attackers’ car was later found near a petrol station about three kilometers from the scene of the crime. Inside, police discovered automatic firearms, while the vehicle itself was carrying fake number plates. The police investigation established that A.S. had sold the car which, as confirmed by forensic tests, the attackers had used. According to initial indications, the suspect sold the car, imported from Slovenia, to a group of thus far unidentified individuals from Skopje in December.
