Serbia's new government " will also continue to implement the reform policy, demonstrating responsibility towards society," Joksimovic said, adding that "such a policy makes Serbia a serious and responsible EU membership candidate."

European integration remains a strategic goal for Serbia, Joksimovic noted.

Dittmann "expressed the expectation that the chapters related to the rule of law will be opened as soon as possible in order to achieve much-needed progress in the field."

Speaking about the continuation of accession talks, they said that the negotiation framework is "familiar and clear."

"The negotiation framework from 2014 clearly defines the significance of progress in implementing the Brussels agreement simultaneously with the negotiation process regarding other chapters, which definitely is neither an additional nor a new condition," they said.

They also "agreed that the normalization of Belgrade-Pristina ties is proceeding pursuant to the Brussels agreement as a basis for the two sides to solve problems through dialogue."

"As it is known, the EU negotiation framework envisions a legally binding agreement on a comprehensive normalization of relations," the statement said.

Contrary to reports in some media, new conditions for Serbia's EU accession, "such as a recognition of Kosovo," are non-existent, the statement also said.
