Nikolic:Pope does not want Christians to argue over Stepinac

Nikolic told the Wednesday edition of Belgrade-based daily Blic that during his meeting with Pope Francis last month he presented his view of the role of Stepinac and the Catholic clergy in the Independent State of Croatia (World War II puppet state) and "accused him of, if not direct participation in the crimes, then of being silent on what was happening."

The Serbian president thanked the Pope for resolving the canonization-related issue by forming a joint commission with the SPC, adding that the Pope agreed that Christians need mutual understanding and harmony.
