LDP leader plans to "also talk to Democrats"

But he stresses that the support of unions and the critical public is also considered very important.

"We need to also talk to the Democratic Party, and I would not mind if everyone gathered around the DS. It is not necessary to create a (new) party, we have our own positions, and it would be good if the bloc were as broad as possible."

This new political organization would be an alternative to the current government and seek solutions to better organize the country, a clear European orientation, and deal with problems with the police and the judiciary.

"The atmosphere is far from what it should be on the daily political level. All this places responsibility on us, there is a need for our parties to find a firmer foothold in what we have wanted to do for years. I cannot watch from the sidelines as the world in which I live collapses. What about the experience that we have with Miloševic, Koštunica, Tadić? Now we have Vučić, but his honeymoon is nearly over."

Asked whether he would now cooperate with Aleksandar Vučić - Serbia's prime minister and leader of the ruling SNS party - Jovanović said that compared to the period before the elections, the circumstances now are "very different," and that he was looking at the prime minister in a different way.

"The country is not functioning three months after elections, and no one thinks that a new election would change something. Exactly what we thought would happen is happening, and the biggest responsibility for the current state of the country is with Vučić, but the problems are much deeper," Jovanović said, accusing the prime minister of "putting together a government without energy or quality."

Still, he noted that "one head being chopped off will not fundamentally change anything," and advised against "chopping off many heads because of one hothead."

The LDP leader believes that we live in "a disoriented country" that does not know how to deal with problems, while "everything should be cleared up, starting with Stefanović's doctorate to what is being said in the Special Court."

When it comes to his party, which in March failed to cross the five percent threshold and win seats in Serbia's parliament, Jovanović said that after the election "a kind of disappointment" ruled there - but that now there is "no shortage of optimism."

Asked about the manner in which the party is now financed, Jovanović said:

"We are financing ourselves the same way we did before we became a parliamentary party."
