BELGRADE Honorary President of the Democratic Party (DS) Boris Tadic has said that he will consider leading the DS again "if the party wishes it." "My ambition is not to be at the head of the DS again, but if it is required, I will take up that job. If there is belief the leadership should change and if that view is reached through the party's procedure, I will consider it," Tadic, who until last year served as Serbia's president, told B92 on Sunday. Tadic "would consider returning as DS leader" The DS "has to figure out what state it is in, what kind of leadership it should have and how it could achieve its goals," he noted. Serbia cannot have a European future and complete its reforms without the DS, because the parties running the country at the moment have not trained their people to implement the current political agenda, he stated. Tadic believes the DS could be part of the government after the next election, either by winning the poll or in some other way. "If you want to be a government party, you have to score well in the election, and the DS has to aim for more than 20 percent of the votes," Tadic said. There is currently no possibility for a coalition between the DS and the Serbian Progressive Party, but such a thing could be possible after the election, he remarked. "We have to create a consensus on the kind of society we are building and what we expect from that political agenda," he said. "Otherwise, the DS, as the most important party in Serbia, in terms of its human resources, will be sidelined during an important political period for the implementation of reforms. We who formed the idea of a European Serbia can end up in a situation where that idea is implemented by people who do not know how," Tadic pointed out. (Tanjug, file) B92 Tanjug
