BELGRADE Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic has said that the government needed to go down the EU pathway and that it would otherwise hardly survive. “Nobody in the government is questioning its European orientation but the one who starts questioning it will question the survival of the government,” he told weekly NIN. "Serbia must stay committed to EU pathway" “The key question is what kind of society we want to become and on what values we want to base it on. The best we can do is get a date for the beginning of the talks in order to have a serious access to funds in 2013,” Vucic was quoted as saying. He stressed that he had never heard in the talks with officials from Brussels, Berlin and Washington that the NATO membership was a condition for the EU accession and added that Serbia would not be a part of any military alliance. “We will continue the excellent cooperation with the U.S. Department of Defense, we will establish cooperation with Russia but we will not be a part of any military alliance,” Vucic concluded.
