Rocky, I don't see anywhere in the Copenhagen Criteria that mentions anything about Serbia recognizing an independent Albanian Kosovo. Back in 1993, we were all part of that happy family called Yugoslavia, remember? You are welcomed to interpret the Criteria any way you wish.

We were part of a happy family! It might have been for the Serbian's! That make belief, fairy tale & so called family brutally in 1987 stripped away our autonomy, the only assurance of the very limited freedoms we did have at the time!!! Albanians were, (short of all out war) being killed, beaten, tortured in jails, all documented by international human rights organazations! And Croatians & Bosnians were being slaughtered like pig's.. Had it not been for our dear late president, Ibrahim Rugova and his pacifist policy we kosovare's, would have met the same fate in 1993! & not In 1998-1999!  Ecoman, do Serbian elders ever teach thier young, words of wisdom? Our elders do! they start when we are very young.. One of those words of wisdom that come to mine is, don't try and eat your apple in one mouthful because you will choke on it! I,am sorry to say Serbia has indeed made a fine example of this word of wisdom! Ecoman, I with all respect sincerely hope that the Serb nation will finally come to its senses & realize that the only way we can ever be a family is, when we will be adopted as 2 independent countries, Kosova & the republic of Serbia by the E.U.

"What the man is saying is that open opposition to EU membership is political suicide, which is sadly true; see the DSS and the Radicals."
(Sergei, 9 August 2012 22:54)

It is not only political suicide, but economical suicide for the country as well.

A. Vucic, you wouldn't be able to join NATO if you wanted to! Albania, would instantly veto such a proposal! Then the E.U. Has been letting Serbia know indirectly that recognition of Kosova is needed prior, to Serbia's potential E.U. membership! And this is not a new precondition! It's been in place since 1993 it's called the coppenhegan critaria if you forgot, and all new eventual members must first meet this critaria, including Serbia! Serbia, you are are the perfect example of the term, being caught between a rock & a hard place little buddy... And look at your economy in turmoil, your unemployment rate keeps rising, your dinar on the decline every day!

What the man is saying is that open opposition to EU membership is political suicide, which is sadly true; see the DSS and the Radicals. That is an absolute, what is relative is the price of admition. How much the Progressives are willing to pay, in terms of K&M abviously, is yet to be determined. We will see.

Good job Vucic, you used to accept orders unquestioningly from the Hague, now you are a complete disciple of the EU project awaiting instructions from Brussels.

This must be what is meant by restoring Serbia's backbone and to respect ourselves. If only I was as consistent and strong in making complete U turns...

Let me put this together:
"The key question is what kind of society we want to become and on what values we want to base it on."
"Nobody in the government is questioning its European orientation..."

I agree on the key question, but I deplore that there is NO debate about the answer !
