Boris Tadic warned that talk about the use of physical force in the electoral process was "unnatural and not suitable for establishment of a democratic system". In an interview for state television RTS ahead of the second round of presidential elections which is due on Sunday, Tadic said that "the false climate of fear is being created ahead of the second round of the elections". Tadic: Threats dangerous for democracy "This should discourage citizens from voting, and I call on citizens to go to polls so that Serbia would defend itself from the climate of violence as was the case in the past," the leader of the Democratic Party (DS) said. His runoff rival and head of the SNS party, Tomislav Nikolic, accused the Democrats of election theft in the first round on May 6, and on Monday said that his party would organize to if necessary "physically defend each vote". A potential decision of Nikolic to dispute the legitimacy of elections regardless of their outcome could cause unforeseeable consequences, he said. Tadic said that the society was "not civilized" if the Prosecutor's Office and other government institutions are called into question as was done on Monday, when SNS disputed the findings of the prosecution according to which the May 6 elections were not rigged. He added that such actions "must not be undertaken in a democratic system so as to avoid the society from becoming prone to upheaval". Boris Tadic (Tanjug, file) RTS Tanjug
