Democratic Party (DS) Main Board member Ivan Vujacic has said that, in accordance with statutory deadlines, presidential elections should be held next winter. He explained that the election should be held when the president fulfilled his entire term, just as the government would fulfill its own mandate. “Presidential elections should be held next winter” “The only way to call the presidential elections now is that the president resigns with some sort of explanation. Is 'we are saving money' a sufficient excuse? Perhaps so, but if we are already praising the stability of the political system and the government that has managed to stay where it is the whole mandate, then the president should also fulfill his entire term and the presidential elections should be called next winter, to avoid creating a sort of an emergency situation just for opportune reasons,” Vujacic told Belgrade-based daily Blic ahead of the DS Main Board that will be held on Saturday. Nevertheless, he rejected the arguments that the whole year would be lost in the elections. “The government would work normally and would be able to make important decisions with the help of the president, who is serving his regular term,” the DS official pointed out.
