Serbia's Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic said Wednesday the European Commission report is very positive when it comes to the reform process to date. He said Serbia will continue to contribute to peace and stability in the Balkans, but will not change its policy on Kosovo because of the EC opinion. Serbia will not change Kosovo policy, says FM "I think today's report from the European Commission was extremely positive when it comes to the way the reform process to date in Serbia is viewed," Jeremic said at a joint news conference after a meeting with Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini. "We will continue reform efforts, regardless of the how fast the political decision is made in the European Council, which is made up of 27 countries," Jeremic said. He added Serbia is committed to the European process and to finding a compromise solution for Kosovo. "But for us these are two separate processes and one cannot affect the other, at least as far as our position is concerned," Jeremic said, noting that a solution for Kosovo can only be found through dialogue. Frattini said Serbia should remain open to dialogue and the EU should explain to Pristina that it is in its own interest that Serbia join the EU. Asked what advice Italy could offer Belgrade, Frattini responded: Italy's advice is to be open to dialogie, which Serbia is, as President Tadic confirmed today. Also, the approach to dialogue should be flexible, but knowing clear lines which Serbia cannot cross, the Italian minister said and added: "In this sense, Italy can have a significant role inside the EU, because it knows Serbia's positions on the issue." According to Frattini, Serbia should be allowed to accomplish more in the European integration process, and the EU should also work with Kosovo. "It is hard for me to understand the position of some EU member countries, which stand in the way of Serbia's progress to the EU, and, at the same time, hesitate to open a dialogue on visa liberalization for the citizens of Kosovo," Frattini said.
