Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic is confident that Serbia will get the EU candidate status in December. He underscored that he would resign if this did not happen. "Serbia will become EU candidate in December" “As a responsible man I stand behind every word. I expressed my stance on resignation before (Hague indictee Ratko) Mladic was located. I am sure that the European Commission (EC) will positively assess the level of reforms implemented in Serbia. I believe we will get the candidate status in December,” the deputy PM told daily Danas. He also pointed out that Belgrade would do its best to solve the Kosovo customs stamp issue, “but not at any cost”. “That is not a new condition, it exists in the Action plan and we will do our best to find a solution, but not at any cost,” Djelic was quoted as saying. He expressed belief that Serbia was closer to the EU than ever, adding that it needed to work on the dialogue with Pristina, which, as he said, had been initiated by Serbia in the first place. On the other hand, Serbian President Boris Tadic has stated that there is a possibility that Serbia will not get the EU candidate status this year. Bozidar Djelic (Tanjug, file)
