The Serbian Ministry for the Diaspora supports the initiative of the Serbian City Club in Great Britain to abolish British visas for Serbian citizens. This would also contribute to better political, economic and cultural relations between the two countries, the ministry said in a statement. Diaspora lobbies for abolishment of UK visas The Serbian Diaspora started the campaign a year after Serbian citizens were granted visa-free travel to the Schengen Area, and Minister for the Diaspora Srdjan Sreckovic supports the idea as well. "Visa abolishment would help the political, economic and cultural relations between Serbia and Great Britain. Members of the Serbian City Club, which mostly gathers young Serbian people in Britain, recently presented the Serbian community to the House of Commons, and encouraged their membership to approach MPs with the request that visas be abolished. This would significantly facilitate and intensify contacts with Serbian emigrants in Great Britain," the minister pointed out. Around 100,000 Serbs live in Great Britain, with the core of the community made up of descendants of post-World War II emigrants, as well as people who left Serbia during the 1990s, reads the ministry’s release.
