During her Tuesday visit to Belgrade, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton presented positive evaluations of Serbia's progress in the process of reforms. This despite different stands on Kosovo, analysts in Belgrade evaluated, saying that the Clinton also supported Serbia on its path of European integrations. "Clinton message positive despite differences" Ivan Vejvoda, executive director of the Balkan Trust for Democracy, a project of the German Marshall Fund, said that the message of support to Serbia's European integration that Hillary Clinton conveyed to Serbia's officials is the most important. In his statement with Tanjug, Vejvoda also evaluated that it is not unimportant that Clinton underscored that Serbia has potential and that it may serve as an example in Europe. Vejvoda said that it is clear that everything that had happened in Serbia lately in regard to the Serbian-EU Resolution on the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice was received positively. “The United States uses the dynamics of the recent positive developments to motivate further progress of bilateral relations in the region,” Vejvoda said, evaluating that this kind of support, with differences set aside, is very important for the stability and peace in the region. Professor at the Belgrade Faculty of Political Sciences Predrag Simic said that Clinton's visit was marked by at least three, if not four, issues. “One is Kosovo, on which Belgrade and Washington obviously have the same different stand as a year ago, when U.S. Vice-President Joseph Biden visited Belgrade. However, on the other side, Clinton evaluated Serbia's progress in reforms and transition using rather flattering words, supporting its progress towards European and, I underscore, Euro-Atlantic integrations,” said Simic. He also underlined that Hillary Clinton emphasized that Serbia not only deserves to become a member of the EU but that it is also one of the leaders in Europe, giving a positive evaluation of the way in which Serbia protected human rights during the Pride Parade last Sunday. Simic underscored that it is important for Belgrade that such evaluations by the US Secretary of State come only a day before the Dutch Parliament is scheduled to vote on including Serbia's candidacy in the agenda in Brussels.
