Serbia is not conducting a defiant or contrarian policy over Kosovo, says Deputy PM Bozidar Djelic. Djelic told today's edition of Belgrade daily Danas that Serbia is instead "doing what any other democratic country would do", when it comes to the disputed province. Deputy PM defends Kosovo policy He stated that he expected the Serbian draft resolution sent to the UN General Assembly to be supported by a majority, but noted that regardless of the outcome of the voting, "positions of all key factors will remain unchanged". "An agreement with the EU on the resolution on Kosovo would be the most positive outcome, but Serbia cannot accept changing of the meaning of that document, and this is not a policy of inat (defiance), any democratic country would do the same," the minister stated. He believes that the decision of some EU members to tie the issue of Kosovo and Serbia's EU integration was wrong, and that it is the type of policy that "won't change our principled position". At the same time, said he, the government will "never give up on the European future of Serbia". Serbia is not trying to use divisions within the EU - where five out of 27 member states have not recognized the Kosovo Albanian UDI - but is rather conducting a policy that shows it wants to be part of a solution, said Djelic. This solution, according to him, should enable for an agreement between Belgrade and Pristina, and provide an opportunity for a united EU policy. Bozidar Djelic (Tanjug, file)
