Diplomatic relations with Montenegro will return to normal if Podgorica re-examines its decision to recognize Kosovo, says Serbian MFA’s political director. Beta news agency reports that Borislav Stefanovic made the comments for state broadcaster RTS on Monday night, and that he added that Belgrade “could not act as if nothing had happened in the wake of Montenegro's recognition of Kosovo”. “Ties back to normal if recognition is re-examined" He also stated that most Montenegrin citizens were not in favor of Kosovo recognition, and that Belgrade's measures were not directed against the people, which should not suffer for the decisions of the authorities, but against the government, reported the news agency. Stefanovic described Montenegro's decision to establish diplomatic relations with Kosovo as a bad move, as Podgorica and Pristina would not be able to exchange ambassadors any time soon because of the problem of the position of the Montenegrin minority in Kosovo. "This means that Montenegro did not really have to recognize Kosovo and could have used the minority issue as a good position not to do so," Stefanovic said. He went on to say that this was the reason why it now seems that the recognition of Kosovo was a deliberate provocation of Serbia, Beta reported.
