Labor Minister Rasim Ljajic said that he "does not see anything" that could lead to early parliamentary elections being held in 2010 in Serbia. However, he said that he would "not be surprised if elections were held after all". "Elections unlikely, but possible" “You can never be certain in Serbia of whether a government will finish its mandate. It is a thankless task to predict how long this government will last,” Ljajic said. He said that the current cabinet “has been hit with every possible problem,” including "inherited problems" and the new problems related to the economic crisis. “The government has been able to find adequate responses to the challenges. We are awaiting similar challenges related to the global crisis in 2010, but other issues as well,” he said, adding that he expects that the Kosovo question to come into focus after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) gives its opinion on the unilateral independence declaration made by ethnic Albanianas. Ljajic also expects "progress" in Serbia’s European integration. This minister said that he "does not see the opposition as having the power to force early elections" adding and that he is "more afraid of relationships within the ruling coalition". Ljajic said that his party, SDP, insisted on dialogue between all partners, but that a formal agreement will be signed for cooperation with the ruling Democratic Party (DS). “We prepared a draft agreement with DS, and it will be harmonized after the holidays. We want to formalize cooperation and dismiss the suspicion that we will be cooperation in the same way with DS and the rest of them,” Ljajic said. Rasim Ljajic (FoNet, file)
