Owing to the absence of quorum yesterday in parliament voting on the no confidence motion was postponed, though no new date has been set. 123 MPs from the ruling coalition applied to vote, while the opposition, though they were present in the chamber, did not wish to provide a quorum that requires 126 MPs. Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic said that a new date for the vote would be set in due course. No confidence vote postponed indefinitely After a 14-hour debate on the motion, Djukic-Dejanovic invited MPs to register for the vote, but Serb Radical Party, Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS)and New Serbia MPs, who tabled the motion in the first place, declined. The speaker said that this effectively brought the issue to a close. “I understand that defeat is hard to take. It was manifestly clear that there were too few of them, so we ended the session. The vote will take place when they so choose, but it’s unlikely to happen any time soon,“ she said. The opposition say that the aim of the motion of no confidence was not to topple the government, but to receive answers to questions that thez would not otherwise have received. "Our objective was to have a debate on something which has not been discussed for five months in parliament, to see, to have one day in our lives when the government is not ignoring us regarding two or three key issues that are of importance to the citizens of Serbia," the DSS's Aligrudic told reporters in parliament after the end of the session where the motion was debated. "The ruling coalition is obliged to prove at any given moment that it has the support of 126 MPs for a majority," he said. Parliament yesterday (FoNet)
