Deputy PM Bozidar Djelic says he received assurances that a report on Serbia's progress toward the EU would be "essentially positive". Djelic told Tanjug news agency that he had been informed during a meeting with European Commission Vice President Jacques Barrot at the World Economic Forum in Istanbul that Serbia would next year "have a chance to make key steps in the EU accession process". Djelic: EU report will be "essentially positive" "We received assurances from Mr. Barrot that the European Commission report, which will be published next week, will essentially be positive for our country and be a good basis for the possibility of obtaining a EU candidate status next year," he said. According to Djelic, Barrot also said that his report would leave room for Serbia to be included in the white Schengen list next year "if the political conditions were met", and if Belgrade continued with judicial reforms and fight against organized crime, and introduced biometric passports. In a statement to reporters yesterday, Djelic said that he "expects Serbia to be a EU member by 2014". Last week, some parts of the EC Commission mission in Belgrade report were leaked to the media, mostly critical of Serbia's progress.
