Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic is sure parliament will work more effectively in September. Djukic-Dejanovic thinks that political tensions in Serbia will have subsided by then. “Parliament more effective from September” “I think that after talks with party whips, political tension in Serbia will ease, and that reasonable time frames will be guaranteed for work on parliament’s agenda,” the speaker said. She said that a large number of international agreements were due to be adopted by the parliament. Speaking to Pink TV, she pointed out that the political situation had been tense in recent days, and that a new strategy for parliament’s work would be devised in order to prevent a repeat of the obstruction that had plagued parliament over the course of the last month. "Around EUR 420mn are practically blocked. That money’s supposed to be invested in agriculture, infrastructure, hospitals, and that cannot be justified. In that event, we will have to work all night if needs be, and everybody knows that that the quality of work suffers if you work 24 hours a day,” the speaker said. Djukic-Dejanovic said that parliament’s working hours would have to be longer than agreed with the party whips—as much as 10 to 22 hours a day. The speaker sent a telegram yesterday to inform MPs that the fourth emergency parliamentary session would resume at 1000 CET on September 2. Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic (FoNet, archive)
