DPS official Miodrag Vukovic says that recognition of Kosovo independence is not high on Montenegro’s list of priorities currently. Commenting on various calls in the last few days for Podgorica to recognize Kosovo’s unilateral independence “as soon as possible“, Vukovic said that this “is not currently on the agenda of national priorities.“ "Kosovo not on Montenegrin agenda" The senior Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) official said that Montenegro had not been “exposed to any kind of pressure“ to recognize Kosovo independence. “Everyone understands our positive distanced and considered views on Kosovo independence, and our position that we will be present wherever our national and political interests are at stake, but that we’ll also be with our European and Euro-Atlantic friends,“ he explained. In Vukovic’s opinion, that understanding had helped Montenegro to affirm its stand on Kosovo independence. “If everything comes together and the conditions are created, if we even get to that situation where we have to take a decision on that matter, we will do so while making sure we preserve internal and regional stability,“ said the DPS official, adding that Montenegro would not “foresake its European and Euro-Atlantic ambitions.“
