Serbia's presidential vote, which has not yet been called, has the third confirmed candidate. The Serb Radical Party (SRS) has today announced that its deputy leader, Tomislav Nikolic, will be a candidate to become Serbia's next president, in a ballot that they expect to take place on January 20 next year. Radicals say Nikolic will run for president The party president, Vojislav Seselj, is undergoing trial at the Hague Tribunal, charged with war crimes. The Radicals are currently the largest opposition party. SRS Secretary-General Aleksandar Vucic told reporters today that his party believes the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) will be signed with the EU "between the two rounds of voting", in order to "boost Boris Tadic", since "the West believes that his victory would make Kosovo independence easy". The Democrats' leader has also announced that he will run, and Nikolic is considered to be his only serious opponent. Vucic said that the regime coalition is sending out different messages regarding the Kosovo problem, and once again called for a parliament session where lawmakers will debate the state negotiating team report. "The key question is what Serbia will do in case of a unilateral declaration of independence, and what it will do about the moves that the U.S. and EU might decide to take against Serbia," he explained. The Radicals believe that they must take part in the elections, in order to "beat the regime candidate Tadic", Vucic said, and described the vote as "perhaps fateful for Serbia's future". Speaker Oliver Dulic has until December 31 to schedule the ballot.
