The Croatian government said Friday it has authorized purchase of 84 armored vehicles from the Finnish company Patria.

Croatia to buy 84 armored vehicles

Defense Minister Berislav Rončević declined to reveal the value of the Patria AMV vehicles, but said the Finnish offer was EUR 42 mn lower than an offer by Austria's Steyr.

Croatian media speculate that Patria Vehicles Oy sought EUR 100mn.

The government commission is to complete negotiations with Patria by Nov. 30, the government said on its Web site.

Patria is a defense and aerospace group 73 percent-owned by the Finnish state and 27 percent- owned by the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company EADS N.V.
