Investigation into Ćuruvija case continues

The investigation continues this week as former DB members will be questioned, after this was postponed earlier, Tanjug was told by Zora Dobričanin-Nikodinović, the lawyer for Radonjića and Romić.

Since the launch of the probe on January 13 former DB chief Jovica Stanišić, JSO unit founder Franko Simatović, former deputy BIA chief Milorad Bracanović, and many officials and members of the former state security all testified, as did Biljana Pejović, the widow of Luka Pejović, who was at one point mentioned in connection to the case.

Others who testified included protested witnesses Dejan Milenković aka Bagzi, and Miladin Suvajdžić, and former members of the Zemun Clan Miloš and Aleksandar Simonović. Ćuruvija's daughter Jelena Ćuruvija also gave her statement.

Radonjić and Romić are in custody, while Marković is serving 40 years in prison for the murder of Ivan Stambolić and four officials of the SPO party. Kurak is at large and not available to Serbia's judicial authorities, who issued an international arrest warrant for the suspect.

Radonjić and Romić are also on trial before the High Court in Belgrade accused of helping in the attempted murder of Vuk Drašković in Montenegro in 2000. They were found guilty and sentenced to eight and seven years in prison, but the verdict was overturned and a new trial ordered.

Ćuruvija was shot and killed in April 1999 in front of his apartment building in Belgrade, in the midst of NATO's bombing campaign. At the time the ruling parties in Serbia were the SPS, JUL, and the SRS.
