Head of the crime squad of the Serbian border police Milenko Vukadinovic said that Kosovo is the "biggest black hole" for drug trafficking. The EU should get involved in solving the problem, said this MUP officer. Kosovo "black hole" for drug trafficking "This year we have seized a smaller quantity of narcotics than last year, which tells us that our preventive actions have considerably reduced drug trafficking. This does not mean drugs are not coming into the country at all, just that the quantity is considerably smaller, Vukadinovic told Magyar Szo. He said traffickers have mostly likely chosen an alternative route, as it is well known drugs reach Western Europe through the so called Balkan Route, which starts in Turkey and goes through Serbia, primarily through Kosovo. He specified heroin comes from Afghanistan, via Turkey, Serbia and Bulgaria, to the EU. There are two routes - one going through Serbia, and the other through Bulgaria and Romania, into Austria, but Kosovo is the place that brings them together, Vukadinovic said. "Europe needs to finally understand that if it wants to prevent drug smuggling, it needs to take concrete steps and offer assistance to the Serbian border police," Vukadinovic said, noting that the Ministry of Internal Affairs does not have representatives in Kosovo, and that "the trafficking is supposed to be halted by another police."
