Today marks the 11th anniversary since former Serbian Presidency Chairman Ivan Stambolic was murdered. State Security (DB) top officials were convicted of his murder. Anniversary of ex-Serbian presidency chairman murder It was determined during the trial that the murder had been ordered by former Serbian and Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic, who wanted to eliminate his political opponent. According to the verdict, Milosevic ordered the DB to kill Stambolic, who was kidnapped and murdered by Milorad Ulemek Legija’s Special Operations Unit (JSO). The former Serbia’s Presidency chairman was kidnapped during a morning jog in a park in downtown Belgrade on July 25, 2000. He was taken to Mt. Fruska Gora where he was murdered. His murder was solved after former Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic's murder, which was also organized by Ulemek. It was determined during the trial that the murder had been ordered by former Serbian and Yugoslav President Slobodan Milošević, who wanted to eliminate his political opponent.
