Trial for murder of Frenchman postponed

The trial of 15 Partizan football club fans accused of killing French national Brice Taton was postponed today after a witness failed to show up in court. A new hearing was scheduled for early November when the protected witness will be available to testify. Trial for murder of Frenchman postponed Taton family’s lawyers and his parents have stated that they are unsatisfied with the postponement of the trial. The defendants are accused of aggravated murder and all of them have been remanded in custody, except Djordje Prelic and Dejan Puzigaca, who are on the run and they will be tried in absentia. Taton, who was in Belgrade to support visiting Toulouse FC, was brutally beaten on September 17, 2009, in a local café. The Frenchman was beaten with baseball bats, bars and torches ahead of the Partizan-Toulouse match. He died from the injuries 12 days later. Stepa Petrovic, Stefan Velickovic, Milan Tarlac, Dragan Tomasovic, Jovan Karbic, Bojan Matijevic, Milan Vujovic, Ivan Grkovic, Vladan Suvajac, Ljubomir Markovic, Branimir Cetnik and Dejan Stankovic are also standing trial beside Prelic and Puzigaca. Vladimir Boskovic who is accused of helping the perpetrators after the crime is the only one who was released from custody pending the trial. The process began on April 21 and the victim’s parents Suzanne and Alain Taton, several witnesses from France and a protected witness have so far given statements.

Trial for murder of Frenchman postponed

Taton family’s lawyers and his parents have stated that they are unsatisfied with the postponement of the trial.

The defendants are accused of aggravated murder and all of them have been remanded in custody, except Đorđe Prelić and Dejan Puzigaća, who are on the run and they will be tried in absentia.

Taton, who was in Belgrade to support visiting Toulouse FC, was brutally beaten on September 17, 2009, in a local café.
