President Boris Tadic and two other state officials have been ordered to pay RSD 40,000 each for consuming alcohol while attending a sports event. The EUR 416 fines will be paid by Tadic, Youth and Sport Minister Snezana Samardzic-Markovic and Belgrade City Assembly President Aleksandar Antic, a court in Belgrade has decided. Court puts "price tag" on champagne The fine proscribed for the offence ranges from RSD 30,000 to 50,000, and can translate to 60 days in jail if the offender fails to make the payment. Should the president or any of the other fined officials repeat their misdemeanor, they could be banned from attending sports events in the future. Tadic was caught on camera drinking champagne at the stadium after Serbia's national football squad beat Romania on October 10, to directly qualify for the World Cup 2010. The photographs soon surfaced on the internet and were published in newspapers. Police then filed misdemeanor charges against the officials, who pleaded guilty and did not hire lawyers to defend them. Serbia's legislation designed to prevent violence in sports prohibits consumption of alcohol in and around sports venues.
