Former Zemun Clan member Vladimir Jovanovic has been extradited from Spain to Serbia. The extradition was handled by Interpol police officials, according to Justice State Secretary Slobodan Homen. Zemun Clan member extradited Homen said that Jovanovic would be taken to prison to serve his two-year prison sentence for extortion. He said that Jovanovic had been extradited to Serbia after Spain approved a request from the Justice Ministry for his extradition, but that the date of his extradition had been kept secret for security reasons. Jovanovic is also accused of counterfeiting before the Fourth Municipal Court. He was arrested in Spain in June on a Serbian Interpol warrant. Several weeks before his arrest in Spain, Jovanovic was released from extradition custody in Italy on June 6, where he spent nine months. He was arrested in Italy on September 9, 2008. Jovanovic was found guilty of trying to extort EUR 50,000 from the owner of Maksis Taxis Nenad Mikic. After Mikic refused to pay the money he was brutally assaulted in a café on April 5, 2005. Jovanovic was arrested in Bosnia-Herzegovina last year but was released quickly since it was confirmed that he had Bosnian citizenship, giving him immunity from extradition to Serbia. Homen said that Jovanović would be taken to prison to serve his two-year prison sentence for extortion.

He said that Jovanović had been extradited to Serbia after Spain approved a request from the Justice Ministry for his extradition, but that the date of his extradition had been kept secret for security reasons.

Jovanović is also accused of counterfeiting before the Fourth Municipal Court.
