Damir Dokic, the father of Australian tennis player Jelena Dokic, has been remanded in custody for 30 days, B92 understands from the municipal court in Ruma. Dokic was taken in for questioning at 22:00 CET last night, but this was delayed after the suspect called for his lawyer to be present. Damir Dokic remanded in custody Judge Branislav Rakicevic said that Dokic had been detained because he constituted a threat to the public. Dokic was arrested yesterday for threats he made to the Australian ambassador to Serbia. According to Interior Minister Ivica Dacic, it was the police’s duty to protect all diplomatic and consular representatives in Serbia. Police arrested Dokic on suspicion of threatening Ambassador Clare Birgin and for illegal possession of weapons and explosive materials. Dokic threatened Birgin through a statement given to a daily newspaper, the Interior Ministry stated. On Wednesday, police found seven hunting rifles and a pistol that were legally owned, and two bombs and 20 357-calibre bullets in illegal possession during a search of the suspect’s property in Vrdnik. One of the staff at Dokic’s property told B92 that the police search had lasted several hours. She said that Dokic had not resisted and that he had offered to bring the weapons out himself, as well as the paperwork, but that the police had wanted to bring the weapons out themselves and just wanted to know where they were located. Judge Branislav Rakičević said that Dokić had been detained because he constituted a threat to the public.

Dokić was arrested yesterday for threats he made to the Australian ambassador to Serbia.

According to Interior Minister Ivica Dačić, it was the police’s duty to protect all diplomatic and consular representatives in Serbia.

Dokić threatened Birgin through a statement given to a daily newspaper, the Interior Ministry stated.

On Wednesday, police found seven hunting rifles and a pistol that were legally owned, and two bombs and 20 357-calibre bullets in illegal possession during a search of the suspect’s property in Vrdnik.

One of the staff at Dokić’s property told B92 that the police search had lasted several hours.

She said that Dokić had not resisted and that he had offered to bring the weapons out himself, as well as the paperwork, but that the police had wanted to bring the weapons out themselves and just wanted to know where they were located.
