Serbian police (MUP) officers this morning started a major operation in the areas close to Kraljevo, Raska, and Novi Pazar. Some 35 people have been arrested on Monday, 18 of them policemen, it has been confirmed. MUP arrests 35 in connection to GSZ organized crime Those detained are suspected of committing various criminal acts that include smuggling and receiving and giving bribes. Police say they were smuggling oil, alcohol and other excise products across the administrative boundary with Kosovo. The suspects crossed the administrative line in the Ground Safety Zone (GSZ) toward the municipality of Raska in order to avoid customs, while they forged documents for the goods they transported to lower their value. As they crossed the boundary, they communicated via radio, MUP has revealed. The smugglers are believed to have bribed the policemen– who were also arrested today – ahead of crossing the line. Officers found a considerable quantity of rifles, pistols and several hand grenades as they arrested the suspects. Police Directorate chief Milorad Veljovic said that the raids today are a continuation of the fight against organized crime. Special Organized Crime Prosecution cooperated with the police in this operation.
